Worth weighing

5 to weigh
  • No lift on site — The property has no elevator, which could be a consideration if you have heavy luggage or mobility concerns.
  • Set back from the main tourist area — The location is a bit outside the old city core, so you'll need a short walk or tuk-tuk ride to reach the main temples, night bazaar, and Nimman.
  • Strict no-smoking policy — The property enforces a strict non-smoking policy, which is great for non-smokers but may be limiting for those who smoke.
  • Card payments incur a fee — A 3% surcharge applies when paying by card, so bring cash or factor it into your budget.
  • Potential for street noise in some rooms — While many rooms are quiet, at least one guest reported noise from the street and had to request a room change.

“Varada Place surprised us in the best way. The staff even wrote a letter to a shop owner explaining my recent dental surgery, which was beyond thoughtful. The beds were the most comfortable we had in Asia. The location sits perfectly between the lively university street and the old city's temples and markets. They also listened to our feedback. It was the best hotel of our whole Thailand trip, and we'll miss the wonderful people who made it so special.”

8.3Verified guest

“Rooms are spotless and well set up, with a small balcony that's handy for drying laundry. The people are friendly and genuinely helpful. Just note the no-smoking rule is enforced strictly.”

“We loved our time at Varada Place. The staff were cheerful and professional, and the owner, Varada, is a warm host who loves cats. She patiently answered every question and helped arrange our excursions. The central location meant we could walk to most attractions. Rooms were immaculately clean, and little touches like free water, tea, and coffee made a difference.”

“Good spot, set back from the busiest tourist streets yet still easy to get around. Rooms are basic but clean, and they're tidied daily. You get a microwave, fridge, and free water bottles. The resident cats add a cozy feel. Great value for the price.”

“Comfortable beds and a staff that goes out of its way. Location is convenient, with a shopping mall and good food nearby. Free coffee, a quiet street, and motorbike rental on site. Wi-Fi worked well, rooms were clean and spacious with a balcony and equipped kitchen area. They can book tours for you. Downside: no lift, 3% fee on card payments, and a 100 baht deposit for the room key. Still, good value – I'd happily return.”

“Great base for exploring both the old city and Nimman. Being close to Maya Mall and plenty of cafés and restaurants was a huge plus. The room was spacious and clean, with a comfy bed and effective AC. Free lobby coffee was welcome, and the kitchenette with utensils made take-out dinners easy. Wi-Fi was reliable throughout.”
